Job summary

Carrington Wood is recruiting an experienced HR Advisor to join its busy HR team in Exeter for a full-time permanent role. This hands-on generalist position focuses on employee relations, absence management, policies, compliance and day-to-day HR advisory support.

You’ll contribute to recruitment, wellbeing and engagement, use HR data and systems to drive delivery, and build strong relationships with managers. A CIPD Level 5 qualification and at least three years’ experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years recent experience working as an HR Advisor or equivalent.
• CIPD Level 5 or equivalent qualification.
• Strong generalist HR experience with emphasis on employee relations.
• Up-to-date knowledge of employment law and best practice.

Are you an experienced HR professional looking for a varied generalist role where you can make a genuine impact?

Carrington Wood is working on behalf of a well-established professional services organisation to recruit an experienced HR Advisor to join their busy HR team.

This is a hands‑on generalist HR position, providing practical and commercially minded HR advice across a broad range of people matters. The role has a strong focus on employee relations, absence management, policies, compliance and day‑to‑day HR advisory support, alongside involvement in recruitment, wellbeing and employee engagement.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Providing practical and supportive HR advice to managers and colleagues
• Supporting and advising on employee relations matters and absence management
• Advising on HR policies, procedures and employment law
• Supporting compliance activity and ensuring HR processes are delivered effectively

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 3 years recent experience working as an HR Advisor or equivalent
• CIPD Level 5 or equivalent
• Strong generalist HR experience, particularly across employee relations
• Up-to-date knowledge of employment law and HR best practice
• Confident providing practical HR advice and guidance to managers
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Highly organised, proactive and solutions-focused
• Comfortable working with HR systems, data and IT
• Previous experience within professional services, ideally a law firm, would be advantageous

Further Information

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:15pm, with some flexibility required beyond standard office hours when business needs require.

The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, providing flexibility alongside regular office-based collaboration.
