Job description

Policy Advisor – People and Culture
Location: BCP Council (hybrid working – some office presence required)
Contract: Temporary, full-time
Rate: £21.50 per hour LTD / £17.79 PAYE
Interviews: In person
We are currently recruiting on behalf of our local authority client for a Policy Advisor to join their busy and supportive People and Culture team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HR professional to contribute to a fair, inclusive, and high-performing workplace by shaping and implementing key policies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development, review, and implementation of People and Culture policies in line with employment legislation, best practice, and BCP Council’s values.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in employment law, advising on the implications for policy and practice.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including trade unions, legal advisors, and service managers, to ensure policies are legally sound, practical, and aligned with the Council’s strategic objectives.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on complex HR policy matters to senior leaders and People and Culture Business Partners.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Full CIPD membership.
  • Relevant experience of employee relations and policy development in a unionised setting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to simplify complex HR processes into clear, accessible policies and procedures.
