Job description

Who you'll be joining

You'll be joining an established family business just north of Swindon as their HR Adviser covering a maternity leave on a 12 month contract starting in August 2025. You'll be part of an experienced, close-knit team, working closely with the management team and interacting with every part of the business as a generalist HR Adviser.

Please note that this role is for part time hours (26-32 hours per week) spread across 5 days per week (for example, 9:00am to 3:00pm daily) to ensure that there is HR expertise onsite every working day.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for a wide range of HR functions, ensuring the smooth and compliant operation of employee relations and administrative processes. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Proactively advising line managers on employee relations issues like disciplinaries, performance, and sickness absence. You'll manage the full grievance and disciplinary procedures and handle all ER casework, including note-taking at meetings.
  • Managing the entire employee journey, from recruitment advertising, sourcing, and onboarding (including Right to Work checks, drafting contracts, and new starter paperwork) to retention, offboarding, and exit interviews, all while liaising with Line Managers.
  • Producing and issuing HR literature (e.g., changes in terms and conditions). You'll maintain the HR database with training, holiday, sickness, absence, and remuneration records. Additionally, you'll prepare job descriptions, maintain procedures and policies to ensure compliance, and attend legal updates.
  • Completing weekly staff payroll, preparing paperwork for employee terminations and leavers, and liaising with the Accounts Department on payroll and pension queries.
  • Providing administrative support to the Compliance Advisor, preparing reports and audit findings for distribution, and attending all management meetings, including biannual health and safety meetings.
  • Advising on training requirements and ensuring the training matrix and HR system are kept up to date.

Why you'd be a good fit

  • You're a highly organised and proactive CIPD qualified HR professional with a comprehensive understanding of employee relations and HR best practices.
  • You possess excellent administrative skills and are meticulous in maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance.
  • Your ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels, coupled with a calm and empathetic approach to sensitive situations, will be crucial.
  • Experience with HR databases and a strong grasp of employment legislation are essential.
  • Experience with Sage.
  • Experience managing a staff payroll.

What's in it for you?

This is an excellent opportunity to take on a broad and impactful HR role within a supportive team. You'll have the chance to manage a wide range of HR functions independently, developing your skills across the entire employee lifecycle. We offer a stable working environment and the opportunity to contribute to the success of a company with a strong commitment to sustainability. You'll be compensated with:

  • Base salary of circa. £33,000 pro-rata.
  • Flexible, part-time working hours across a Monday to Friday schedule.
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • 4x death in service cover.
