Job summary

A leading housing organization is looking for a Housing Support Worker to assist women prison leavers in securing safe housing and enhancing their life skills. You will play a vital role in promoting the mental health and well-being of these individuals through person-centered support and community engagement. The position is for 30 hours per week with a temporary contract until March 2026, offering a salary of £24,404 pro rata and numerous benefits including annual leave and pension.

Housing Support Worker (Female Prison Leaver Project)- 30 hours per week

The Role - Housing Support Worker

You will support women prison leavers (in a supported accommodation setting and the community (Women's Prison Leaver Project only) with their housing needs and life skills in a person-centred, trauma informed way. This will involve:

  • Supporting women prison leavers with mental health and wellbeing, by encouraging healthy activities and lifestyles, and signposting to services
  • Assisting with claims for housing and associated benefits to support prison leavers' financial stability
  • Organising and managing a range of engaging activities to promote social inclusion
  • Playing a hands-on role in responding to incidents appropriately, contacting and liaising with NWH staff, emergency services, voluntary and statutory agencies,
  • Maintaining accurate service user records and files
You'll be working 30 hours per week on a 2-week rota. Shifts are as follows:

  • Week 1 - Monday and Wednesday (11.30am - 8.30pm, Thursday (12.00pm - 8.00pm) and Friday (9am - 5pm)
  • Week 2 - Monday (8.30am - 5.30pm), Friday (11am - 8pm), Saturday and Sunday (9am - 5pm)
Our Requirements - Housing Support Worker

    • Either have the ability to hold at least basic conversations in Welsh (although you may struggle to keep up fully) or be currently learning / willing to learn Welsh to the required level
    • Experience working in a client centred environment such as housing, care or similar (e.g., supporting individuals in reporting maintenance issues, making healthcare appointments, pursuing hobbies, securing training and employment, etc.)
    • Knowledge of the support needs of vulnerable people
    • Good verbal and written communication skills
    • Hard working, with a positive 'can do attitude'
    • At least have basic IT skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
