Job summary

Action for Children is seeking a Housing Support Practitioner in Dundee to provide tenancy and outreach support for vulnerable young people aged 16-21 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The role focuses on housing advice, conflict resolution, school-based education, group work and one-to-one support to help young people build resilience and life skills.

You will work within the Dundee Whole Family Service (Homeless Prevention Team) and collaborate with partner agencies to deliver

Qualifications

• SVQ level 3 in Health & Social care or equivalent.
• Experience in multi-agency social care, early years or health environment and applying safeguarding procedures.
• Experience of managing cases, completing assessments, planning and reviews to ensure positive outcomes.
• Knowledge of the issues and barriers facing young adults who may at times lead chaotic lives.
• Knowledge of disabilities and how this affects individuals.

Responsibilities

• Offer general counselling and support including befriending, advising on food preparation, independent living skills, housing applications and tenancy sustainment.
• Signpost young people to services that are relevant to their needs.
• Maintain effective working relationships and communication with colleagues, young people and families.
• Be alert to child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Participate in regular supervision sessions and practice meetings to maintain a cohesive approach.
• Ensure familiarity and compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
• Work towards GIRFEC outcomes and comply with Health and Social Care Standards and the SSSC Code of conduct.

Job description

Salary: £27,400 per annum

Location: Dundee, Scotland

Contract/Hours: Fixed term June 2027 - 37 hours per week

This post is offered on a fixed-term basis; due to annualised funding, however there will be the possibility that this is extended if further funding is secured.

A bit about the role and Service

Dundee Whole Family Service (Homeless Prevention Team)

The Dundee Whole Family Service is committed to supporting young people and families across Dundee through early intervention and practical support, with the Homeless Prevention Team delivering targeted support to those at risk of homelessness.

Our aim is early intervention to prevent family breakdown, strengthen family relationships, and reduce the risk of homelessness for young people.

Using a whole-family approach, we work collaboratively with young people, parents, carers and significant others to identify and address challenges, promote family stability and help families remain together wherever possible.

As part of the team, you will provide tenancy and outreach support to vulnerable young people aged 16-21 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Through a range of interventions, including housing advice, conflict resolution, school-based education, group work and one-to-one support, you will help young people build resilience, develop life skills and achieve positive outcomes.

Working alongside a range of partner agencies, you will develop and deliver personalised, strengths-based support plans tailored to individual’s needs. You will empower young people to live independently, sustain their tenancies and become active, engaged members of their communities.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

You'll also;

Do you have an understanding of the issues young people face who are at risk of homelessness and methods of how to prevent this? We are looking for someone who can act with professionalism, non-judgemental and encourage our young people to make informed healthy decisions.

Some other requirements we have for the role are;
