Job summary

Westmorland and Furness Council in Workington is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to focus on private sector housing and housing standards. You will provide technical advice to residents, landlords, elected members and senior officers, and help ensure compliance with housing legislation.

The role involves leading on HMOs licensing, enforcing under the Housing Act 2004, and maintaining case management records.

Responsibilities

• To provide technical advice to residents, landlords, Elected Members and senior officers on environmental health in private sector housing.
• To investigate housing complaints using the Housing, Health and Safety Rating System and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation (MEES, Electrical Safety Standards etc).
• To ensure the case management system is kept up to date and holds all relevant information related to individual cases.
• To lead on the licensing of Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOS)
• To lead on any enforcement required under the Housing Act 2004, liaising with the council's legal department where appropriate, in line with the Cumberland Enforcement Policy.
