Job description

The purpose of our Service is to provide quality, affordable, healthy, and sustainable homes that meet the present and future needs of all our tenants.

The Housing Standards team is made up of five closely linked areas of housing expertise, i.e., construction, repairs, improvements, contract management, and safety. Each team consists of suitably qualified, skilled, and experienced trade operatives, surveyors, or contract supervisors.

The role

As a member of the Housing Safety Team, you will contribute to the overall success of the Housing Standards Team through a combination of reactive and planned surveys/risk assessments. These surveys/risk assessments will inform the Housing Improvement, Decarbonisation, and compliance programs of work.

The team is responsible for ensuring the council’s housing assets are maintained to meet all current statutory, regulatory, and legislative standards.

You will complete onsite compliance inspections such as fire alarm testing, emergency lighting testing, and legionella controls in housing assets, conduct surveys, and produce schedules of works for void properties to meet the lettable standard, advising the income officer of works that may be recharged to the tenant, conduct energy performance assessments, and support entry and Mid-level surveyors as required.

The core focus of this job is the development and delivery of new construction projects via a large-scale approach.

What you will bring

You will have extensive knowledge of health and safety relating to built assets, knowledge of legislation in respect of building compliance, data protection regulations, and housing construction.

Excellent communication skills are a must, both written and oral, with the ability to problem solve and find pragmatic solutions, along with excellent customer service skills.
