Job summary

Gemini Recruitment partners with a leading law firm in London to recruit a Housing Solicitor Director with 3+ PQE. The role focuses on housing and litigation, including court appearances, with supervision of a housing department and a drive toward business development.

Hybrid working is supported with a mandatory in-office presence three days a week. The successful candidate will lead, mentor, and coordinate Solicitors, Trainee Solicitors and Caseworkers across a broad housing caseload,

Qualifications

• Experience in housing and litigation with court representation required.
• Must meet the 2013 SQMS Supervisor standard in Housing or be willing to work toward it.
• Excellent client care and professional approach.
• Experience mentoring staff and guiding junior lawyers is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Report to and collaborate with the Board to meet performance targets.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to the housing team.
• Represent clients as Housing Court Duty Scheme for the last 2 years.
• Manage and supervise Solicitors, Trainee Solicitors and Caseworkers.
• Deliver training and development within the department.
• Handle a range of housing cases including homelessness, disrepair, eviction.
• Prepare funding applications to the Legal Aid Agency.
• Draft documents including witness statements and evidence.
• Support business development and client relationships to sustain volumes.

HousingDepartmentBackground:

Ourclient’sHousingteam,rankedbyTheLegal500directoryforitsservicesacrossEnglandandWales,providesassistancetobothlandlordsandtenantsonallhousingissues.Theirpractitionersarehighlyexperiencedinfindingsolutionstohousingdisputesandaimtoaddresstheissuesquicklyandeffectively.Ourclientofferslawyersupporteddisputeresolutionoralternativedisputeresolution(ADR)asameanstoresolvehousingdisrepairmatters.Theirdepartmentalsoregularlyrepresentsclientsinthecourtsforunlawfuleviction,possessionproceedingsandprepareapplicationsforjudicialreviewincasesofhomelessness.

MainResponsibilitiesoftheRole:

• ReportdirectlytoandcollaboratingwiththeBoardtoensureperformancetargetsaremet
• ResponsibleforallaspectsofHousingworkincludingprovidingtechnicalexpertiseandguidancetootherteammembers
• SignificantexperienceinrepresentingclientsasHousingCourtDutySchemeoverthelast2years.
• AbilitytomanageandsuperviseSolicitors,TraineeSolicitorsandCaseworkerstomanageappropriatecaseloadtypesandcomplexities
• Assistingwithdeliveryofappropriatetraininganddevelopmentinthedepartment
• VarietyofdutiesincludingdealingwitharangeofHousingcasesincludingHomelessness;Disrepair;Eviction;Possession;PropertyOwnershipDisputes;SuccessionforTenants;Housingadaptations;SocialHousing;NeighbourhoodProblemsmattersaswellasundertakingyourownadvocacy
• Dealingwithemergencycasesandidentifyingandcarryingoutstrategiclitigation.
• PreparingandmanagingfundingapplicationstotheLegalAidAgency
• Preparingdraftdocumentsincludingwitnessstatementsandprocessingevidence
• Youwillhaveaprofessionalpro‑activeapproach,strongclientcareskillsandbeinterestedinBusinessDevelopmentandMarketingtosupplementthesubstantialworkvolumesbroughtinbythecompany.
