Sunderland City Council is seeking to recruit a Regulatory Compliance Officer for a fixed-term 12-month contract. This role is funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to support the Council in managing medium and high-rise flats with building safety defects.
The ideal candidate will have experience in private sector housing regulation under the Housing Act 2004 (HHSRS) and fire safety. However, applications are welcome from individuals with a proactive approach, good computer literacy, and strong communication skills. Experience in building construction, surveying, or general regulation would be advantageous.
The role involves assisting an established Senior Environmental Health Officer and Team Manager in managing high and medium-rise buildings. Responsibilities include communicating with responsible persons, collecting information, and participating in inspection and assessment teams. Experience with legal enforcement tools, such as serving legal notices, is beneficial.
Training will be provided, including opportunities to shadow experienced staff. The position focuses on improving standards in privately rented accommodation and preparing for the implementation of the Renters Right Bill.
The successful applicant must be able to work independently and as part of a team, assessing risks and taking appropriate actions to protect residents.
