Job summary

Somerset Council is looking for a Housing Options Officer to help prevent homelessness and secure housing outcomes across Somerset. You will work with residents, landlords and partners to explore options and support those in need.

This permanent, full-time role (37 hours per week) offers a salary of £29,542 to £33,119 per year, plus a retention allowance of £4,451 paid until December 2028. Join a dedicated Housing Options Team making a difference in local communities.

Qualifications

• Experience working with people facing homelessness or housing difficulties.
• Knowledge of homelessness, housing and tenancy-related legislation.
• Ability to assess needs and identify practical housing solutions.
• Evidence-based decision making and professional judgement.
• Strong customer service and safeguarding standards.

Responsibilities

• Identify practical housing solutions for residents at risk of homelessness.
• Manage a varied caseload with assessments and timely decisions.
• Collaborate with landlords, support organisations and partner agencies.
• Develop personalised housing plans with residents towards stability.
• Provide expert housing advice while maintaining high service standards.
