Hours

36 hours a week (Monday to Friday), 9 AM - 5 PM


Duration

Initial 3-month contract with a fixed-term extension available after 3 months with the council


Location

HYBRID WORKING - 3 days a week in the office/on-site at Bernard Weatherill House, Croydon


Description

Role Purpose:

The Visiting Officer plays a vital role in homelessness prevention by visiting customers at home, explaining the housing circumstances in the Borough, and offering advice and assistance to help them remain in their homes or consider other options, thereby reducing the need for a homeless application under Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Book appointments and visit potentially homeless clients to understand their circumstances and advise on alternatives to making a homeless application
  • Conduct additional visits as required or requested by managers in the Needs & Assessments service
  • Maintain up-to-date records of visits and produce written reports within 7 working days
  • Ensure compliance with data protection requirements
  • Provide information on Council housing policies and local housing circumstances
  • Interview customers in their homes or other locations, promoting a positive image of the Council and ensuring respectful treatment of all service users

Essential Knowledge:

Working knowledge of homelessness legislation
