Job summary

A charity supporting communities in Scotland is seeking a Housing First Support Worker to provide person-centered support to individuals in their own tenancies. The ideal candidate will have strong empathy, patience, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Role includes implementing support plans and delivering personal care. Training and support for qualifications will be provided as needed, and weekend shifts may be required.

Hours: Full time, 36 hours per week

Shifts: Monday to Friday (evening and weekend cover may be required)

We are looking for a new Housing First Worker to join our team, delivering Housing First support Across Midlothian.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about changing expectations and experiences of people we support, many of whom have experienced significant trauma, exclusion and stigma. Despite the challenges they face they have incredible resilience, survival skills and a wicked sense of humour. They know what a good, and not so good service looks like.

In Housing First we work in their own tenancies to support them in fostering safety, choice and control in their lives. You’ll be based in the community, working one to one with individuals to provide person-centred, trauma informed support linking in with other agencies and partners as required.

As part of our Housing First team you’ll contribute to the development of our Service, provide support to colleagues and work to improve outcomes for the people we support.

Role and Responsibilities:

· Provide support that positively impacts the person we support’s health and wellbeing.

· Contribute and implement support plans.

· Be responsible for the delivery of all support and its administration, including personal care, tenancy support, health needs (including assistance with medication), personal development, emotional needs and inclusion.

Essential Skills and Attributes

· Essential Car Access due to rural outreach locations.

Experience in providing support to individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs, including homelessness, mental ill health, and/or substance use

  • Empathetic and Patient

· Compassionate

· Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.

· Ability to engage in continuous development, including formal learning.

· Qualified to the level required by the SSSC as a support worker in a housing support service and care at home service, or a willingness to work towards and to successfully complete qualification within the SSSC specified timeframe.

Desired Skills and Attributes:

  • – Assist / MHFA / SafeTalk trained
  • – Naloxone trained

If you’re starting a career in social care or are already working in social care but don’t have the qualifications just yet, we will support you to gain the appropriate qualifications needed to register without condition with the SSSC.

· We want to encourage our staff and their own personal development. Training will be provided to help you excel in your role. We offer funded SCQF levelled qualifications, such as SVQs and HNCs as part of your development plan.

Additional Notes

· Shift work, weekend work may be a requirement of this role.

· PVG scheme membership and SSSC registration are requirements of this post.
