Job description

Summary

We are looking for an engaging and compassionate person who is experienced in delivering housing related support, to join our Rhondda Cynon Taf Housing First team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Overview

It is essential that the successful candidate has a full drivers licence, access to a car and business insurance.

What is great about the role?

The Housing First Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that Housing First clients receive appropriate assessment of their housing issues. You will assist clients to find and maintain a safe and secure home through the local Housing First Landlord Network or any other suitable alternative.

The role can be challenging but rewarding. You will have a chance to develop and introduce a more effective and supportive approach to dealing and responding to problematic behaviour, as well as finding creative solutions to working with clients with complex needs. A new approach can be difficult to achieve but can make the difference between someone returning to the streets or being able to move on from homelessness for good.

Day To Day Duties

As a Housing First Co-Ordinator, your day will consist of:

  • Managing your own caseload
  • Working directly with people who are sleeping rough on the streets
  • Engaging and interacting with the people we support to establish goals to work towards
  • Carrying out Risk Assessments
  • Carrying out housing and support assessments with the people we support
  • Providing advice on finances, health, welfare benefits, housing options and tenancy management skills
  • Working with external agencies and signposting the people we support to the appropriate services suited to their needs, specifically treatment and mental health services

Our goal is to ensure we equip the people we support with the knowledge and tools they need to manage their home independently and tackle their other support needs through engaging them with the right services. This can be challenging when you are working with people with substance misuse issues, mental health issues, chaotic lifestyles, and people who are disengaged after having already been through many other services. Therefore, resilience, compassion and experience are essential for this role.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to make a real difference to someone’s life and help them, build on their confidence and skills to manage their own their own tenancies within the RCT area.
