Job description

Blackpool is undergoing significant transformation, with ambitious plans to regenerate its housing, economy, and public spaces. Through substantial investment in town centre developments, the new Multiversity campus, residential regeneration projects, and the growth of high-tech businesses within the Blackpool Enterprise Zone, we are creating a stronger and more prosperous future for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. Improving housing standards is central to this vision. Our Selective Licensing scheme is a key tool in achieving this, helping to ensure that private rented homes are safe, well managed, and contribute positively to local neighborhoods. By promoting responsible landlord management and tackling poor housing conditions, we are supporting healthier and more sustainable communities. The Housing Enforcement Team plays a vital role in this work, investigating housing defects and disrepair within the private rented sector and using powers under the Housing Act 2004 to secure improvements and raise standards utilising the Housing Health and Safety Rating System. Blackpool Council is looking to recruit experienced Housing Enforcement Officers to join the Public Protection Team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to improving housing conditions, supporting vulnerable tenants, and delivering positive outcomes for local communities. You will play an important role in delivering Blackpool's largest Selective Licensing Scheme, covering eight wards within Inner Blackpool. The role will involve carrying out property inspections, investigating complaints and licensing breaches, gathering evidence, and taking appropriate enforcement action to secure compliance and improve housing standards. We are looking for individuals with experience of housing enforcement and a good working knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 and associated enforcement powers. You will be a committed team player with excellent communication and investigative skills, a proactive approach to problem solving, and a genuine passion for improving the quality of housing and the lives of residents across Blackpool. Join us and be part of a team that is helping to transform housing standards and support the wider regeneration of one of the UK's most ambitious coastal towns.
