Job summary

Insight Executive Group is recruiting a Housing Enforcement Officer to support housing standards in the private rented sector. The role includes conducting inspections, addressing disrepair and enforcing compliance in a hybrid, temporary capacity.

The ideal candidate will have experience in housing enforcement or related fields, strong communication and investigative skills, and knowledge of HHSRS and private sector housing legislation.

Qualifications

• Experience in private sector housing, housing enforcement, environmental health or HMO management preferred.
• Strong communication and investigative skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
• Knowledge of HHSRS, HMO and private sector housing legislation is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out property inspections and housing condition assessments, including HHSRS assessments.
• Investigate complaints and identify appropriate solutions and interventions.
• Work with landlords and HMO managers to improve standards and ensure compliance.
• Support licensing and enforcement activity, including notices and penalties.
• Collaborate with partner agencies across housing, planning, police, fire and trading standards.
• Maintain accurate case records and meet deadlines.
• Stay up to date with housing legislation and best practices.

Housing Enforcement Officer

Temporary l 37.5 per week l 3 months l Hybrid

3 days office / 2 days WFH

We are currently recruiting for a Housing Enforcement Officer to support the improvement of housing standards within the private rented sector.

The successful candidate will work with landlords, letting agents, residents and partner agencies to address housing conditions, support HMO compliance and help resolve issues including disrepair, overcrowding, harassment and unlawful eviction.

Key Responsibilities as a Housing Enforcement Officer

• Carry out property inspections and housing condition assessments, including HHSRS assessments.

• Investigate complaints and identify appropriate solutions and interventions.

• Work with landlords and HMO managers to improve standards and ensure compliance.

• Support licensing and enforcement activity, including notices, civil penalties and rent repayment orders where appropriate.

• Work closely with partner agencies including housing, planning, police, fire and rescue and trading standards.

• Maintain accurate case records and ensure work is completed within agreed timescales.

• Keep up to date with relevant housing legislation, guidance and best practice.

About You

We are looking for someone with experience in private sector housing, housing enforcement, environmental health, HMO management or a related field.

You should have strong communication and investigative skills, be confident working with a range of stakeholders and have a practical, solutions-focused approach to improving housing standards.

Knowledge of HHSRS, HMO legislation and private sector housing legislation is required.
