Clayton Legal is seeking an experienced Litigator to join its Housing Disrepair Department in Liverpool, Merseyside. You will manage your own civil litigation caseload from inception to conclusion, including trials and appeals where required.

You will shape litigation strategies from pre-action through to trial and provide technical guidance to Fee Earners and Legal Assistants. Housing Disrepair experience is preferred, but strong civil litigation experience and strategic caseload management are

Qualifications

• Solicitor or CILEX qualification or 3+ years of substantial litigation experience.
• Comprehensive civil litigation experience from pre-action through to proceedings and trial.
• Experience instructing Counsel, attending conferences, and working with barristers.
• Housing Disrepair experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong client care and ability to meet SLAs and KPIs.

My clients is looking for an experienced Litigator to join their thriving and fast-paced specialist Housing Disrepair Department.

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident and technically strong litigator who wants genuine ownership of their caseload and the opportunity to shape effective litigation strategies from the pre-action stage through to trial and, where required, appeal.

You'll be joining a resilient, varied, and growing practice, working alongside an experienced team of legal professionals. As well as managing your own caseload, you'll provide technical guidance and mentoring to Fee Earners and Legal Assistants, helping to develop both the team and the service we provide to our clients.

Housing Disrepair experience is preferred, but we are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong civil litigation experience and a proven ability to manage cases strategically and proactively.

The Role

As a Litigator, you will manage your own civil litigation caseload from inception through to conclusion, including trial and appeals where required.

You'll take a strategic approach to your cases, continually assessing their strengths, weaknesses and prospects and adapting your litigation strategy as matters develop.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing a civil litigation caseload from inception to conclusion.
• Creating clear case plans by assessing client instructions and available evidence.
• Developing and maintaining effective, dynamic litigation strategies.
• Becoming a subject matter expert within your area of litigation.
• Providing technical guidance, mentoring and support to Fee Earners and Legal Assistants.
• Liaising with clients to obtain statements, evidence and supporting documentation.
• Providing clear, practical and appropriate advice throughout the litigation process.
• Preparing and reviewing correspondence, pleadings, witness statements and other legal documents.
• Dealing confidently with correspondence and telephone calls.
• Keeping clients fully informed about the progress of their cases.
• Developing appropriate settlement strategies and negotiating where required.
• Instructing Counsel and coordinating case strategy and settlement conferences.
• Attending conferences, hearings and other Court appointments as required.
• Managing cases through the Court process, including case management and applications.
• Ensuring compliance with Court timetables, departmental procedures and the SRA Code of Conduct.
• Liaising with Accounts to ensure funds are correctly allocated in accordance with the applicable Solicitors' Accounts Rules.
• Managing client expectations and resolving complaints professionally and in line with company policy.
• Maintaining accurate case management and time recording systems.
• Working to SLAs, KPIs and billing/cash collection targets.
• Supporting the continued development of the department through best practice and knowledge sharing.

You'll ideally have:

• A Solicitor or CILEX qualification, or a minimum of 3 years' substantial litigation experience.
• Comprehensive civil litigation experience from pre-action protocol through to proceedings and trial.
• Experience of Court case management and making applications.
• Experience instructing Counsel, attending conferences, and working with barristers.
• Housing Disrepair experience - preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong client care skills and a focus on achieving positive client outcomes.
• The ability to communicate professionally with clients, opponents, experts, Counsel, and the Court.
• Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
• The ability to work effectively to SLAs, KPIs and Court deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and effective use of case management and time recording systems.
• The ability to work autonomously while also contributing positively to the wider team.
• The confidence to make sound strategic decisions and adapt your approach as cases evolve.
