The Housing Assistant will support Housing Officers in delivering local housing services. Responsibilities include interviewing and advising customers on their housing prospects and needs, assisting at tenancy sign-up, handling key tenancy changes such as terminations, and maximizing the Council's income while minimizing rent arrears.

Essential qualifications and skills:

  • Relevant experience in dealing with the public in person and via telephone.
  • Proficiency with figures and Microsoft Office packages.
  • Knowledge of housing services, including estate management and debt recovery.
  • Effective customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong numeracy skills.
  • Ability and confidence to handle angry or upset customers.

Additional expectations:

  • Use of initiative in decision-making.
  • Flexibility to work at different locations and during different hours as required.

Desirable: A National Certificate in Housing or equivalent qualification.

Additional information: This is a temporary position, subject to business needs and funding, for 12 months or until the requirement for the post ceases, whichever is earlier.
