Job summary

A local council is seeking a Housing Allocations Officer to assess housing register applications, support applicants throughout the process, and provide exceptional customer service. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills and a full driving license for business use. This role is part of a supportive team dedicated to delivering high-quality housing solutions.

Qualifications

  • MUST HOLD A FULL DRIVING LICENCE AND HAVE ACCESS TO A VEHICLE FOR BUSINESS USE.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assess housing register applications in line with the Council's Housing Allocations Scheme.
  • Make decisions on applications and notify applicants in writing.
  • Advertise available accommodation on the Council's choice-based lettings scheme.
  • Allocate and nominate applicants for suitable offers of accommodation.
  • Accompany applicants on viewings of offers of accommodation and carry out home visits.
  • Liaise with other Council departments to ensure applications are verified.
  • Draft standard letters and email templates, and information for the public.
  • Provide advice and assistance as part of the Housing Solutions Team.

Job description

As the Housing Allocations Officer, you will:

  • Assess housing register applications in line with the Council's Housing Allocations Scheme
  • Make decisions on applications and notify the applicant in writing
  • Advertise available accommodation on the Council's choice-based lettings scheme
  • Allocate and nominate applicants for suitable offers of accommodation in line with the Council's Housing Allocations Scheme
  • Accompany applicants on viewings of offers of Council owned accommodation
  • Carry out home visits
  • Liaise with other Council departments to ensure applications are correctly verified
  • Draft written materials such as standard letter and email templates, checklist forms and information offered to the public in paper or electronic format
  • Provide a full housing solutions service, offering advice and assistance as part of the wider Housing Solutions Team
