Housing Advice & Homeless Prevention Officer

Location: Hillingdon

Service: Homeless Service

Duration: 3 Months

Hours: 35 Hours

Salary: £27.38 LTD / £23.49 PAYE (including holidays)

We are currently recruiting for a skilled Housing Advice & Homeless Prevention Officer to join the Homeless Service at Hillingdon Council. This role involves delivering frontline homelessness prevention support, including outreach in hotel settings, and requires strong knowledge of housing legislation and excellent case management skills.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver effective, personalised housing advice to prevent homelessness.
  • Undertake assessments under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
  • Manage a busy caseload including housing options, move-on support, and referrals.
  • Engage in outreach work at hotels to support resettled clients.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external partners to secure accommodation solutions.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and carry out appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain high-quality, accurate records and prepare reports for senior managers.
Candidate Requirements
  • Proven experience in a housing advice or homeless prevention role within a local authority or housing organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 (Part VI & VII) and related legislation.
  • Experience conducting housing assessments and managing complex cases.
  • Excellent communication skills with clients facing crisis or with complex needs.
  • Ability to collaborate across social care, housing providers, and voluntary agencies.
  • Proficient in housing and case management IT systems and report writing.
Contract Details
  • Working hours: 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday
  • 3-Month Contract, Temp to Perm
  • Pay: £27.38 per hour LTD; PAYE equivalent: £23.49 per hour (including holiday pay)
