Job summary

St Peter & St James Hospice is seeking a Housekeeping Assistant to maintain high standards of cleanliness across our hospice in Lewes. The role supports patients, families and staff by ensuring a safe and comforting environment.

The position is part-time (22.5 hours per week) over 5 days, with a permanent contract. It offers pro rata pay and benefits aligned with our values-driven organisation.

Qualifications

• Experience in housekeeping or cleaning roles (desirable but not essential).
• Good literacy, numeracy, and understanding of health and safety.
• A flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
• Organised and able to work to deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning patient rooms, bathrooms, communal areas, and offices to a high standard.
• Using a variety of cleaning methods and equipment safely and effectively.
• Ensuring waste is disposed of correctly and infection control procedures are followed.
• Maintaining patient dignity and privacy at all times.
• Supporting the wider team in creating a warm, respectful, and inclusive environment.

Job Details:

• Location: St Peter & St James Hospice, North Common Rd, North Chailey BN8 4ED
• Salary: £14,914 - £15,101 pro rata (£24,856 - £25,168 Full-time equivalent)
• Working hours: 22.5 hour a week over 5 days (4.5 hours an afternoon)
• Contract Type: Permanent part time
