Job summary

Barnsley Hospice is seeking a motivated and compassionate Housekeeping Assistant to join our Housekeeping Team. You will help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, volunteers and staff across the hospice.

You will assist with cleaning and laundry services, ensuring high hygiene standards and infection prevention. Weekend shifts require independence, reliability and strong attention to detail in a supportive charity setting.

Barnsley Hospice is seeking a motivated and compassionate Housekeeping Assistant to join our Housekeeping Team.

About the role

As a Housekeeping Assistant, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our patients, visitors, volunteers and staff. Working as part of our Housekeeping Team, you will assist with cleaning and laundry services across the hospice, ensuring high standards of hygiene and infection prevention are maintained at all times.

This role is particularly suited to someone who takes pride in their work, can work independently when required, and understands the importance of creating a comfortable environment for people receiving specialist palliative and end-of-life care.

About you

• Has experience in a housekeeping, cleaning, domestic services or similar role.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the hospice in line with cleaning schedules and infection control procedures.
• Carry out housekeeping and laundry duties, ensuring linen is handled safely and appropriately.
• Safely use cleaning equipment and materials in accordance with hospice policies and guidelines.
• Report maintenance issues, equipment defects and any concerns to the Housekeeping Team Leader.
• Accurately complete cleaning records and documentation as required.
• Support the safe handling and disposal of clinical and sanitary waste.
• Ensure stock levels of cleaning products are maintained and rotated appropriately.
• Help provide a welcoming and supportive environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
