Job summary

Student Castle Manchester is seeking a friendly, reliable cleaner to maintain public areas across the property, including corridors, reception, lifts and social spaces. You will also assist with kitchen and flat inspections, welfare checks, and reporting maintenance issues.

The role emphasizes customer service, safety awareness and a proactive approach to hygiene. Training will be provided for manual handling and health and safety policies in a diverse student environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Carry out cleaning duties around the property and grounds.
• Keep front entrance and reception clean and presentable.
• Report damages or faults to maintenance promptly.
• Report accidents or near-misses to First Aider.
• Clean internal doors, frames, and glass as needed.
• Mop, vacuum and clean flooring in public areas.
• Ensure areas are free from rubbish and hazards.
• Use wet-floor signs and sanitize touchpoints as required.
• Replenish consumables and maintain hygiene standards.
• Provide friendly, patient customer service.

Job description

Overview:

You will be responsible for keeping our public areas looking their best, including spaces like corridors, lifts, reception, social spaces, public bathrooms, etc. You will be required to assist with kitchen inspections and possibly flat inspections, so we are looking for someone who has customer service and student welfare at the forefront of their efforts. During our busy periods, you will be required to assist with moving items and clearing properties so this will naturally involve an element of manual handling, for which full training will be provided.

You will be a familiar face around the property for both staff and students, so we ask for someone with a friendly and welcoming manner – offering a warm smile can make all the difference! Our customer’s welfare and experience are at the heart of what we do at our property. Main responsibilities:

• To carry out cleaning duties around the property and throughout the grounds
• Ensure that the front entrance and reception are always kept in excellent and clean condition
• To report any damage or faults to the maintenance personal as soon as they are spotted
• To report any near-misses or accidents to the appointed First Aider
• To clean the internal doors, frames, and glass as necessary
• To mop, vacuum, and generally clean flooring throughout the public areas
• Ensure areas are free from rubbish, dirt, dust, debris, marks, extraneous liquid, or solid substances
• Ensure no marks, excess materials or unpleasant odor remains as a result of the cleaning operation
• Ensure areas are left hygienic, and not slippery or hazardous to building users
• To use appropriate signage whilst conducting cleaning services, such as wet-floor signs
• Ensure that touchpoints such as lift buttons, door handles, and table surfaces are sanitized as necessary
• Replenish any consumables necessary
• To always be helpful to customers, provide a friendly and patient attitude
• To report any concerns you might have regarding the mental health or welfare of a student
• To complete any in-person or online training required by management for the safety and wellbeing of staff and students
• To act in a trustworthy and respectful manner if inside a student’s flat or room

Skills

• Clean, tidy and honest
• Physically fit with good customer care skills
• Able to exercise initiative and prioritise duties accordingly
• Able to work to a high standard against agreed timescales with limited supervision

Technical Knowledge & Training:

• Trained to BICS Standard or NVQ Cleaning qualification desirable
• Experienced in the safe use of all types of cleaning equipment
• Awareness of Health & Safety issues and the need for safe methods of working
• Awareness of COSHH regulations
