Job SummaryThe housekeeper will play a key role as part of the team, working under the direction and guidance of the Department manager/Charge Nurse or their designated deputy. The primary responsibility of the role is to assist the nursing team with non-clinical tasks, uphold high standards of cleanliness in the clinical areas, and contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients. They will be required to work across two sites: the main Outpatients Department and the Sid Watkins Outpatient Department.
Main duties of the job- Clean and disinfect clinical and non-clinical areas, including waiting areas, consultation rooms, and corridors, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness.
- Assist nursing staff with non-clinical tasks, such as setting up treatment areas, moving equipment, and replenishing supplies.
- Handle and dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste in accordance with infection control and department guidelines.
- Monitor and report stock levels of cleaning supplies, linen, and consumables, ensuring that all required items are available.
- Adhere to departmental policies, infection control protocols, and health and safety regulations to maintain a hygienic and safe environment.
- Help in organising and maintaining clean storage areas for supplies and equipment.
- Offer refreshments to patients and their families where appropriate, ensuring a patient-friendly experience.
- Assist with tasks to support the overall patient care process, including collecting laundry, delivering pharmacy items, and other duties as directed by clinical staff.
- Report any damaged equipment or required maintenance repairs to the estates team to ensure minimal disruption to patient care.
- Keep store rooms clean, tidy, and organised, ensuring that equipment and stock are stored appropriately and accessible when needed.
- Perform additional general cleaning tasks such as floor cleaning, dusting, and surface sanitation as required.
