Job summary

Kibble’s Early Years Service in Hallhill Cottage, Johnstone, is seeking a dedicated kitchen and domestic assistant to support meal planning, preparation and cleaning under the guidance of the Catering Supervisor and domestic team leaders.

You will contribute to menu planning, maintain hygiene standards, and support a safe, caring environment for young people aged 5-26, in a role that combines catering, housekeeping and team collaboration.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in catering and cleaning
• SVQ Level 1 in Housekeeping would be desirable
• Experience of working within residential childcare or a care environment is desirable
• Driver’s licence would be advantageous

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily cleaning routines and tasks as scheduled
• Unpack and stack linen and laundry
• Prepare, cook and serve food
• Contribute to menu planning
• Portion control
• Provide special dietary meals where appropriate
• Record keeping (e.g., temperature control checks)
• Ensure hygiene and health and safety in kitchen and assigned areas
• Keep kitchen equipment and surfaces clean
• Ensure meals are served on time and waste is disposed of appropriately
• Oversee service areas and treat transported meals
• Keep dining room clean after meals
• Wash up and account for cutlery, crockery and utensils
• Store food items and cleaning materials properly
• Handle and remove waste per segregation procedures
• Observe proper procedures when entering a young person’s room
• Report damages or hazards
• Ensure equipment is fit for purpose and report faulty items
• Adhere to all role policies and training requirements
• Perform other duties as required by the Service Manager

What is the Job Function?

This role will be within our Early Years Service in Hallhill Cottage, Johnstone . You will have responsibility for the planning, preparation and presentation of meals for young people, staff and visitors under the guidance of the Catering Supervisor. Our kitchen has been accredited with the Healthy Living Award; therefore, you will be responsible for helping to maintain this.

In addition , under the guidance of the domestic team leaders you will also be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the young people’s rooms, public areas, back of house areas such as linen room and laundry areas.

Main duties are as follows:

• To carry out daily cleaning routines and tasks as scheduled
• To unpack and stack all linen and laundry
• All aspects of the preparation, cooking and serving of food
• Contribute to the preparation of menus
• Portion control
• Provision of special dietary meals, where appropriate
• Record keeping, for example, temperature control checks
• Control of hygiene and health and safety in the kitchen and areas assigned
• To ensure kitchen equipment, regeneration equipment and all surfaces are always clean
• To ensure food is ready to be served at the correct times for service and all waste food is discarded immediately after service
• Operational control of service areas, including transported meals
• To ensure the dining room is cleaned after each meal.
• To wash-up and account for all cutlery and crockery and kitchen utensils after meals and breaks
• Ensure all food items and cleaning materials are correctly stored and there are adequate supplies
• To handle and remove waste in line with segregation processes and procedures
• Observe proper procedures upon entering a young person’s room
• Report any damages or hazards that are present in rooms, e.g. burnt-out light bulbs, broken furniture.
• To ensure that all equipment used is fit for purpose and report any damaged or out of date PAT tested machinery.
• Adheres to all policies and procedures relevant to the role
• To ensure that all mandatory training and task specific training is attended as required for the role
• Other duties as required by the Service Manger

What qualifications and experience are we looking for?

• Previous experience in catering and cleaning experience
• SVQ Level 1 in Housekeeping or an SVQ Level 1 in Food Preparation and Cookery would be desirable.

• Drivers licence would be advantageous.
