To support the activity of the Neonatal Unit in the care of babies and their families by ensuring that housekeeping duties are timely and of a good standard. Carry out assigned tasks other than any tasks which require a registered nursing qualification without immediate supervision. To contribute positively to the continuing development of the service, particularly to the organisation of the Neonatal Unit.
To provide support to the nursing team working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team and contributing positively to the delivery of high-quality compassionate care.

To organise and be responsible for the washing and maintenance and labelling of the babies wardrobe, ensuring that infection control policies are adhered to.
To be involved in the sterilisation of emergency equipment. Be responsible for ensuring that items for sterilisation are correctly booked in and out of the Unit, and that safe levels are maintained for use.
To ensure areas are maintained clean and tidy, and are appropriate stocked against agreed levels, including storage areas and medical equipment. To support the senior nursing staff by undertaking the ordering, rotation and maintenance of stocks, CSSD and Unit supplies to ensure an uninterrupted service is always available without direct supervision. To be responsible for the ordering and maintenance of stock levels of specialised milk feeds via the Dietetic Service.
Participate in infection control / environment / environment audits of area with senior staff.
Support the education of nursing staff in the care of specialist medical equipment i.e., decontamination.
To be familiar with and comply with all Directorate, Trust and appropriate Trust Policies and Practices and to comply with Health and Safety, Fire Regulations and to report accidents/untoward incidents/hazards to the Head Nurse immediately
Be responsible for the maintenance and cleaning programme for the Unit.
Make the care of people your first concern, ensuring the patient has a positive experience whilst in your care
To answer the telephone in a courteous and professional manner, accurately taking messages and informing the relevant person(s).
Respond appropriately to patient concerns and questions raised escalating to the accountable registered nurse / health care professional for the patient during that shift.
To ensure areas are maintained clean and tidy, and are appropriate stocked against agreed levels, including storage areas and medical equipment.
Be responsible for ensuring parent accommodation in the Neonatal Unit is maintained at high standards ready for use by distressed parents.
To assist the staff in providing a welcoming environment for families and visitors to the Unit by assisting with visitors enquiries, providing for the needs of upset and grieving parents, including making beverages and food during their stay.
To undertake any other duties as may be required to meet the needs of the service within the limitations of the grade for the post.
In the absence of the Ward Clerk communicate information from telephone calls from health professionals and those concerning both patients’ enquiries and general information, recognising at all times the confidential nature of such information.
