House Manager

The Good Shepherd Centre, Renfrewshire

£43,758-47,188 – dependent on experience. There is also an on call responsibility allowance that is payable for completing on-call duties (1 midweek per week and 1 weekend in 8 rotation) of £12,131.

The Good Shepherd Centre (GSC) is a leading Scottish provider of secure, close support and semi-independent residential care for vulnerable children and young people. Located in Renfrewshire, the Centre offers a calm and therapeutic setting where relationships are at the heart of the work — a place where young people are supported to feel safe, valued, and able to move forward with confidence.

GSC is now seeking a compassionate, skilled and emotionally intelligent House Manager to lead one of its care houses. This is a central leadership role, responsible for the wellbeing of young people and the professional development of a dedicated residential care team. It offers the opportunity to make a deep and lasting difference — in a setting where care is trauma-informed, relationships are everything, and every young person is treated with dignity, respect and belief in their potential.

The Role

The House Manager is a key member of the senior care team, with whole-house responsibility for creating a safe, consistent and nurturing environment. They lead and support a team of residential care practitioners, ensure the quality and compliance of care plans, and build strong partnerships with families, education staff and external professionals.

This role is about both operational leadership and emotional presence: someone who can hold the space, guide others, and act as a calm, steadying influence when things get challenging. The House Manager brings together the threads of care, planning, practice and supervision — ensuring that the house functions as a therapeutic home, not just a care setting.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing day-to-day leadership and support to the residential care team
• Overseeing care plans, assessments and reviews for each young person
• Promoting a consistent, high-quality approach to trauma-informed care
• Maintaining compliance with SSSC and Care Inspectorate standards
• Developing staff through supervision, mentoring and reflective practice
• Chairing meetings, managing rotas and supporting professional development
• Ensuring a safe, healthy and well-maintained living environment
• Sharing in Centre-wide on-call responsibilities (driving licence essential)
• Contributing to the Centre’s leadership team and strategic priorities

The Person

GSC is looking for a grounded and resilient leader, with a strong track record in residential childcare or a related care setting. The successful candidate will bring a high level of emotional awareness, excellent people skills, and the ability to lead others with clarity, empathy and purpose.

Essential:

• SVQ Level 4 and HNC in Social Care (or equivalent)
• SSSC registration (or ability to register) as a Residential Child Care Worker with Supervisory Responsibilities
• Experience mentoring and managing staff in a residential childcare or secure care setting
• Strong working knowledge of safeguarding, care planning and risk assessment
• Skilled in supervising teams, managing complex dynamics, and holding accountability
• Confident communicator and reflective practitioner

Desirable:

• Experience leading multi-disciplinary collaboration and team development
• Additional training in therapeutic models, trauma or adolescent mental health
• Familiarity with behaviour support strategies and medication systems
