Job summary

Coventry University Group is seeking an Hourly Paid Tutor for its Oldham Study Centre (CU Group). The successful candidate will teach within the School of Business, Accounting and Law, developing modules, delivering tutorials, and using innovative, student-centered approaches to learning.

Ability to work evenings and travel between CU Group sites is required. Applicants should hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) with a teaching qualification (PGCE) or be willing to obtain one.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or a good Honours Degree with a relevant professional qualification
• Teaching qualification (PGCE) essential or willing to undertake

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality teaching within the School of Business, Accounting and Law
• Develop and update module material and learning resources on the virtual learning environment
• Provide academic guidance to students and assess learning
• Engage in curriculum development and contribute to an active learning approach
• Travel to CU Group campuses and study centres as required

A opportunity has arisen to join the Oldham Study Centre (CU Group) on a fixed term contract in our academic team in its vision to serve our local students. CU Group provides high quality, student centric, employability focused education from academic levels three to six. CU Group operates through one of Coventry University’s wholly owned sister companies (Coventry University College Ltd.) and is supported by the wider group infrastructure. This position is for our study centre in Oldham.

Our dedicated academic team who are subject specialists focused on delivering student centric education, which is active, social, applied, and inclusive within our vibrant and varied education environment.

The Role

We are currently looking to appoint a Hourly Paid Tutor within the School of Business, Accounting and Law, and has a background in Business, Accounting and Law to contribute to the provision of high-quality teaching within our growing study centre. The successful candidate(s) will join our highly regarded and established team of academics, delivering on our portfolio of undergraduate programmes within our modern facilities.

You will be responsible for providing high quality and effective learning through the provision of teaching, curriculum development and tutorials, using an innovative approach which focused on a world-class student experience that is sustainably offered to current and future students and aligned to both employer and student demands.

You will also be responsible for the development and delivery of learning, teaching, assessment and marking of the course, including the updating of the module material and ensuring all course support material is updated on the virtual learning environment.

You will demonstrate good practice in learning, teaching and assessment and will use these skills to engage students, stimulate interest in the subject and encourage class attendance -validating the value class participation provides. You will provide students with an effective learning experience by providing high quality academic guidance and advice.

Due to the operational requirements of the role, the expected delivery model may require this role to work regular evenings, with working days may being scheduled on days between Monday to Saturday.

As part of the role, you may be required to regularly travel to other CU Group campuses and study centres locations.

Qualifications Required

Applicants will have a Master’s degree in an appropriate subject OR (if from a professional practice background) a good Honours Degree and appropriate professional qualification and/or membership.

A teaching qualification or being willing to undertake a teaching qualification if not already qualified is essential for this role. Coventry University offers academic support and professional development support and provides the opportunity for staff without a recognised teaching qualification to undertake the PGCE. Our Successful Candidate

You will have experience of teaching within the UK Higher Education sector, delivering across a broad programme areas but hold advanced subject knowledge to facilitate teaching and learning in specific aspects of the subject.

You will have a clear passion for the subject area you teach and a strong motivation to facilitate the learning of others, along with an understanding of the needs of diverse student groups and student-centric approaches.

Experience in producing learning and teaching material for online use to support the course you deliver would be advantageous as would the ability to teach across disciplines.

As a global education provider, experience and awareness of students’ cultural differences and expectations with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

Innovation and collaboration are key to our success, therefore the ability to work both independently and part of a wider team with the willingness to engage in flexible ways of working are key skills required for this role.

Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have experience supporting, enhancing and engaging in an ‘active learning’ pedagogy with evidence in proactively supporting success in learning.

To be appointed you will need to share our passion for delivering a positive student experience that puts excellence in teaching and learning at the heart of everything we do and will be able to demonstrate significant knowledge in your area of specialisation. You will be expected to support the design and delivery of teaching that is engaging, innovative and responsive that achieves excellent student learning outcomes.
