WHC Group's School of Community and Adult Learning at Barnfield Campus seeks an enthusiastic Hourly Paid Lecturer to teach Sewing and Dressmaking, run a sewing workshop and support students through the creative making process.
The role involves teaching beginners to create simple items, developing sewing techniques, advising on materials and fastenings, and ensuring health and safety in classes. Fixed-term from October 2026 at Luton Campus.
The School of Community and Adult Learning at our Barnfield Campus is looking for an enthusiastic and flexible person to join our team as an Hourly Paid Lecturer to teach our ‘Sewing and Dressmaking’ courses.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the necessary skills to run and maintain a sewing workshop along with teaching and supporting students with the creative making process. This will include the use of a range of materials, techniques and processes so an excellent knowledge of both traditional and contemporary skills and Health & Safety operating procedures is necessary for the role.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of sewing and the passion to pass this knowledge on to our students of all ages.
You will teach our beginner students how to create a simple sewn item and you will be able to develop our student’s sewing techniques. You will teach our dressmaking and tailoring students how to make a garment from a commercial pattern, whilst advising them on correct materials and suitable fastenings.
This is a fixed term position initially starting in October 2026, based at our Luton Campus. The end date will be reviewed annually in line with course enrolments and demand for the courses from our local communities.
