Lewisham College seeks Learning Support Workers to aid learners with diverse educational needs, including mild to complex disabilities. This rewarding hourly paid position entails providing targeted support alongside teaching staff to promote learner independence and integration within the college.
The Vacancy
Lewisham College, part of Newcastle College Group (a leading national provider of education and training), is looking to recruit Learning Support Workers (LSWs) to work with both individual and small groups of learners to support their access to the curriculum on an hourly paid basis. The learners you will work with may have mild or complex learning difficulties or disabilities and will be from a wide range of ages, from 14 years to adults.
In this rewarding role, you will work under the supervision of managers and teaching staff to provide high-quality, targeted support to learners with learning difficulties and/or physical disabilities. This support will help facilitate their independence, personal care, access to learning, and integration into the College community. You will be part of a dedicated, passionate, and supportive team committed to the success of our learners.
While primarily working within the Supported Learning area led by the LSW Team Leader and managed by the Head of Department, you may also work with various learner groups across the Department.
The ideal candidate will have sound literacy and numeracy skills (Level 2 in English and maths), competent IT skills, and be willing to undertake regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Experience supporting learners with special needs within an educational setting and the ability to build good relationships with teaching staff are essential.
