Job description

Call it what you like – but what we’re really after is someone to put the HOT into HOTEL.

You see, when we launched the first Hotel Gotham in Manchester, it was billed as ‘Europe’s sexiest hotel’. Now it’s Newcastle’s time to enjoy the Gotham effect. So, whoever takes on this role will be enthusiastic and passionate as Hotel Gotham is more than just business. Gotham is a way of life. A vibe. A 5-star-studded, theatrical, vibrant, stylish, dramatic experience – for guests and staff.

Gotham Newcastle is located in the Old Fire Station which was originally built in 1931–1933 based on designs by Cackett, Burns Dick and Mackellar. Baroque Revival in style, a handsome steel framed building with rusticated Portland stone and brick cladding.

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Night Manager (or Night Supervisor) to support the operations of our prestigious five-star hotel during the evening and overnight hours. As the right-hand to the Night Manager, you will ensure the smooth and efficient running of all night operations, leading and supporting a team that maintains the high standards of service expected from a luxury hotel. You will play a pivotal role in guest service, safety, and operational excellence while maintaining a peaceful, welcoming, and secure environment for guests during the night. Your leadership and organizational skills will contribute to ensuring a seamless guest experience, even after the sun sets.

A Glimpse of the Scenes You’ll Be Starring In:

  1. Support Night Operations: Assist in overseeing all hotel operations during the evening and overnight shifts, ensuring all departments—including front desk, housekeeping, and security—are functioning smoothly and in line with five-star standards.
  2. Assist with Guest Services: Ensure a smooth check-in and check-out experience for guests arriving or departing at night. Handle any special requests, room changes, or VIP needs with care, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  3. Lead Night Team: Supervise and support night shift staff, including receptionists, security, and housekeeping, ensuring that they perform their duties effectively and provide top-tier service to guests. Assist in training and motivating team members to maintain high service standards.
  4. Handle Guest Concerns & Requests: Address any guest complaints or requests during the night shift with diplomacy and urgency, ensuring any issues are resolved quickly and discreetly, while keeping the guest’s experience a top priority.
  5. Operational Coordination: Assist in managing hotel operations overnight, including room assignments, guest inquiries, and coordinating with other departments to ensure efficient and timely service delivery.
  6. Safety & Security Management: Oversee the hotel’s security during the night shift, ensuring the safety of guests, staff, and hotel property. Monitor security systems and respond quickly to any incidents or emergencies that arise.
  7. Night Audits & Financial Reporting: Assist in conducting night audits and ensure that all financial transactions are accurate, including billing and cash handling. Help ensure that reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner for management review.
  8. Monitor Hotel Systems: Regularly check and ensure all systems—such as HVAC, lighting, and security—are functioning properly. Troubleshoot any issues that may arise and promptly coordinate with maintenance for quick resolution.
  9. Special Requests & Events: Manage any late-night or special guest requests, from early check-ins to arranging late-night services or events, ensuring each one is handled with precision and attention to detail.
  10. Communication with Day Team: Ensure a smooth transition to the day shift by effectively communicating any important guest requests, incidents, or operational concerns to the Day Manager, ensuring a seamless handover.
  11. Maintain Standards of Excellence: Uphold the hotel’s luxury standards throughout the night shift, ensuring the hotel remains clean, secure, and welcoming. Maintain a high level of organization and professionalism in all aspects of the night department’s operations.
