Responsible to: Managing Director

Responsible for: Retail Team, Catering Team

Salary Scale: £28,000 - £30,000 DOE

Hours of Work: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week, 10 days over 14, with alternate weekends.

Role Summary: To oversee the smooth running and operational commercial functions of the Museum, ensuring high customer service and standards within all areas.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

This role is accountable for:

  • Overseeing the delivery and reporting of performance of commercial and income diversification aspects of the strategic plan.
  • Driving an inclusive, positive, and high-performing culture across the Museum.
  • Delivering excellent commercial operations and customer service standards.
  • Compliant and good practice Health and Safety management.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Management

  • Determine the direction of the Commercial teams and ensure work is aligned to the strategic plan.
  • Lead the Commercial teams to deliver an exceptional service.
  • Line Manage all direct reports and allocate responsibilities.
  • Propose and manage the annual Commercial budget.
  • Recruit highly capable and talented staff.

2. Catering

  • Plan, prepare, cook, and present food to high standards.
  • Ensure effective financial, stock, and cash controls are in place.
  • Lead on research and analysis into current trends for museum catering outlets.
  • Ensure catering areas and equipment meet internal and external audit standards.

3. Retail

  • Ensure operations and presentation of the Gift Shop are to excellent standards.
  • Lead on research and analysis into current trends for museum retail outlets.
  • Ensure effective financial, stock, and cash controls are in place.
  • Manage Online Retail platform.

4. Health & Safety

  • Ensure the health and safety of customers and staff is maintained to high standards.
  • Create and review Risk Assessments and ensure regular Fire Safety checks.
  • Ensure all staff are trained in Health and Safety procedures.
