Overview:

Job Summary

Sentara Communication Assistants play a critical role within the organization by facilitating emergent and non-emergent communication both externally and internally. Our Centralized Hospital Communications Center manages communications for all Sentara Hospitals and free-standing emergency departments (currently 12 hospitals and 4 FSEDs). Responsibilities include receiving, activating, and tracking complex emergency alerts such as Security, Facility, and Medical Alerts. This involves making overhead announcements, activating paging groups, contacting on-call providers and teams, and coordinating responses from physicians, nursing teams, air and ground transport, and others. The role also includes activating the Sentara Emergency Notification system for mass notifications during serious emergencies. Internal call facilitation involves managing complex on-call schedules, escalations, and facilitating emergent consultations between nurses and physicians. The assistant may also assist with training new employees and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Previous healthcare and high-volume multi-line phone office experience preferred.
  • Understanding of medical terminology preferred.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Two years of customer service experience required.
  • Two years of call center experience required.

Compensation: Base pay ranges from $17.31 to $28.85 per hour for full-time employment, with potential additional compensation such as shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, overtime, premiums, and incentives.
