To join Alora’s team as a vital member, we are looking for a talented and motivated Horticulture Operator. The chosen applicant will play a crucial part in Alora’s expanding horticulture team as we set out to develop a genuinely sustainable agricultural system.

In order to play a crucial part in the day-to-day operations of our glasshouses, hydroponics, and field trial operations that support Alora’s crop development pipeline, Alora is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented applicant for this post. Propagation, growth, health, and monitoring of genetically modified plants—mostly rice, though you may also work on other crops occasionally—will be your responsibility.

This post is suited for someone with strong horticulture abilities, a firm grounding in plant biology, physiology or agronomy, and a proactive approach in managing growth environments and supporting research teams.

The first-ever rice field trial in the United Kingdom is presently being conducted by Alora. In addition to ongoing glasshouse studies conducted on-site and in collaboration with partners, maintaining such field trials will become an annual focus. In addition to managing and overseeing these experiments, the chosen candidate will develop new techniques, enhance data collection procedures, and, if necessary, assess phenotypic and harvest data.

The role’s objective

ALORA’s goal of creating climate-resilient crops and sustainable agricultural systems depends heavily on the horticulture operator. By guaranteeing our genetically modified plants grow steadily and healthily in both controlled and field settings, this role helps close the gap between scientific advancement and actual crop performance.

The Horticulture Operator oversees our glasshouse and field trial operations, making sure that experimental crops are cultivated, observed, and cared for to the best standards possible, allowing scientists to provide accurate, significant data. Our capacity to grow climate-adaptive crops—from rice to future cereal varieties—and advance ocean agriculture towards worldwide implementation will be directly impacted by your efforts.

In order to coordinate trial activity and crop performance, you will work closely with technical and scientific leads and report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). You will have many of chances to advance within the horticulture team at ALORA, a company that is expanding quickly.

This is not a typical horticultural position. With creativity, accuracy, and a profound regard for plant health and environmental conditions, it’s a chance to influence the direction of food production in the future.

Benefits
  • On-site parking is free.
  • Kitchenette and canteen.
  • Business and neighbourhood gatherings.
  • Mission-driven and supportive team.
  • There is availability of UK visa sponsorship.
  • Dress casually.
  • Pension plan.
  • Potential equity plan.
  • A component of a rapidly expanding impact-driven startup.
