Job Description:

A leading provider of support services for individuals with learning disabilities - committed to empowering people to lead fulfilling lives is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to assist in an exciting garden transformation project. In this practical, learner-focused role, you will work closely with a Horticultural Specialist to support individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs as they engage in gardening activities designed to build skills, confidence, independence, and wellbeing.

You will play a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment, offering hands-on support to learners as they take part in horticultural tasks. Working in collaboration with volunteers, youll also help facilitate plant and produce sales through the on-site shop, promote positive engagement, and contribute to maintaining high standards of care and safety.

As the Support Worker, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Horticultural Specialist in delivering gardening sessions tailored to each Learners Individual Learning Plan (ILP), ensuring activities are engaging and purposeful.
  • Support Learners in developing practical skills, confidence, independence, and wellbeing through meaningful horticultural activities.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive environment by embedding safeguarding practices and responding appropriately to behavioural needs with empathy and professionalism.
  • Encourage and support Learner progression toward personal goals, including volunteering, employment, or further training opportunities.
  • Help maintain accurate records of Learner attendance, participation, and progress, under the guidance of the Horticultural Specialist.
  • Contribute to the planning, care, and seasonal maintenance of the garden, including safe tool use and preparation of produce for the on-site shop.
  • Support volunteers during sessions, helping foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist with dynamic risk assessments and uphold health and safety standards across all gardening activities and outdoor areas.

The Support Worker will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Prior experience working with individuals with learning disabilities or complex needs is essential.
  • Minimum qualification requirement is a Care Certification (preferably Level 2 or willing to work towards).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act, and inclusive support principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster an inclusive, respectful, and learner-centred environment.
  • Comfortable and respectful in delivering personal care when required.

You will be working 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Appointment will be subject to DBS clearance, right to work checks and satisfactory references.
