Job description

The Hope Project is a male suicide prevention initiative supporting men aged 30-64 across BNSSG. We are recruiting an experienced and organized Project Worker to join our small, friendly team. The role involves working collaboratively with colleagues and other staff members in Second Step and affiliated organizations. You will manage a caseload of clients experiencing suicidal ideation or distress related to housing, finances, or employment, providing timely emotional and practical support to alleviate these feelings.

Main duties of the job

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in the field of suicide prevention and make a meaningful difference to men in distress. You will be part of a dynamic team committed to preventing suicide in this at-risk age group. Support will be provided through appropriate training to help you succeed. We seek someone with experience supporting individuals in distress, who can work independently and as part of a team. Excellent organizational skills, the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships, attention to detail, a proactive work approach, and a genuine passion for supporting people with mental health challenges or social-economic stressors are essential.

Job responsibilities
  • Maintain case records and data as agreed
  • Refer clients to relevant agencies, e.g., debt advice services
  • Support clients in accessing agencies, including contacting, accompanying, and liaising with key organizations
  • Support and connect clients with community resources to reduce isolation, considering individual strengths and interests
  • Refer clients to other services such as IAPT, domestic violence support, or substance misuse programs
  • Adhere to Second Step’s policies, procedures, values, and code of conduct, employing a recovery-oriented approach
Person Specification
Experience
  • At least two years of significant experience supporting individuals with mental health needs or complex needs
  • Proven experience working with clients with multiple needs (e.g., mental health, homelessness, substance dependency, long-term conditions)
  • Experience conducting needs and risk assessments and supporting planning processes
  • Experience managing individuals with competing needs and priorities
  • Experience related to mental health issues or services, either as a user, carer, or supporter
