Job Title – Homeless Prevention Assistant
Location – Thurrock (hybrid working available)
Contract – Temporary
Hours – Full-time, 37 hours per week
Salary – £17.00 LTD / £13.15 PAYE per hour
Role Summary –
We are currently recruiting for a Homeless Prevention Assistant on behalf of a local authority in Thurrock. This role supports the Housing Solutions Service, with a focus on processing accommodation payments, resolving queries, and assisting the Temporary Accommodation team in meeting its legislative requirements.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a background in finance, administration, or housing, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys delivering high-quality support services.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Processing and monitoring payments and invoices for temporary accommodation
  • Acting as first point of contact for accommodation providers regarding payment queries
  • Liaising with internal departments including Finance, Revenues and Benefits, and Social Care
  • Supporting financial preparations at month- and year-end
  • Maintaining accurate data and reports using systems such as Oracle, NEC, Jigsaw, and Objective
  • Monitoring health and safety documentation and ensuring compliance
  • Providing administrative support including data entry, statistics, and letter/report writing
  • Assisting with FOI requests, councillor enquiries, complaints and general correspondence
Requirements:
  • Experience working in a financial or administrative setting, ideally within a local authority or housing provider
  • Knowledge of payment systems and financial processes
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently
  • Understanding of housing and homelessness issues is desirable
