Job summary

A regional healthcare provider is seeking a Homecare & Procurement Officer to manage day-to-day operations of their Pharmacy Homecare Service, aiding over 2,500 patients. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and attention to detail, and will support pharmacy procurement processes. Experience in healthcare and a minimum of 4 GCSEs including English and Maths are required. This role features flexible working, 37.5 hours weekly.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a large organization.
  • Experience in healthcare billing and managing databases.
  • NHS experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the administrative and operational responsibilities of the Pharmacy Homecare Service.

Homecare & Procurement Officer

Are you a strong communicator that can lead a team to deliver an excellent patient-centred service? Do you have experience and/or knowledge of Pharmacy Homecare operations?

We are looking for a Homecare and Procurement Officer to join the Pharmacy department. This role is primarily focused on overseeing the day to day administrative and operational responsibilities of the Pharmacy Homecare Service, which support over 2,500 patients receiving medicines at home. You will coordinate with homecare providers, ensure accurate service records, support stock control, and manage billing processes to help maintain a smooth, cost-efficient, and patient-focused service.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent attention to detail, and communications skills. While primarily the focus is on Homecare, the post holder will also provide support to the Pharmacy Procurement team. This will include liaising with suppliers, assisting with stock ordering, and ensuring compliance with contractual purchasing agreements.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide a comprehensive and efficient daily homecare and procurement service to the trust developing and updating services, following all legal and departmental practices including Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), MHRA Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Distributors, COSHH, Lifting and Handling Regulations and all Trust Policies and Procedures.
  • To assist the Chief Technician and Pharmacy Business Manager with development of cost improvements to the department and trust.

Job responsibilities

Operational:

  • Receive correspondence and queries for the Homecare team and prioritise for action and respond to those of a routine nature

Management:

  • Provides day to day supervision and coordination of homecare staff.

Reporting:

  • To produce performance data in graphical form, related to the Homecare team, as required for adherence to local and regional KPIs and to support future development of performance measures as required

Quality:

  • To co-operate with staff in other disciplines to help ensure the safe, effective and economic use of drugs

Person Specification
Qualifications and knowledge
  • A minimum of 4 GCSE passes or equivalent incl. English Language and Maths.
  • Basic Computer Skills or RSA level 1 or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of importance of confidentiality.
  • NVQ level 4/BTEC or equivalent knowledge and experience in pharmacy practice
  • Knowledge of clinical or medical terms and issues.
  • Prescription Validation and Clinical Screening Programme or working toward qualification
Experience
  • Relevant experience of working in a large organisation.
  • Excellent experience of using a wide range of IT packages including Microsoft Office.
