Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity as a Band 6 Home Oxygen Community respiratory nurse within our Home Oxygen Assessment and Review Service, part of the Mid-Notts Cardio Respiratory service to plan, prepare and support the delivery of home oxygen assessment to work both in clinics and patient's home environment.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity as a Band 6 Home Oxygen Community Respiratory Nurse within our Home Oxygen Assessment and Review Service, part of the Mid-Notts Cardio Respiratory service to plan, prepare and support the delivery of home oxygen assessment to work both in clinics and patient's home environment. There will be a requirement to work across Mid-Notts area including Mansfield & Ashfield, Newark & Sherwood, although predominantly in the Mansfield and Ashfield area to meet the needs of the service in the Mid- Notts portfolio, therefore you must be a full UK drivers licence holder and have access to a car for work purposes.

The Mid-Notts Cardio Respiratory Service is a community based team, which provides holistic and multidisciplinary evidence based support for respiratory patients in the Mid-Notts area.This service includes Specialist Community Respiratory Nurses, the Home Oxygen Service and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Working in partnership with other community teams, primary care and close support from Respiratory Consultants in secondary care. We aim to improve quality of life and promote self-management for respiratory patients through comprehensive holistic interventions.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Job responsibilities

You will be an experience nurse, responsible for providing specialist nursing care and will work flexibly supporting the team to deliver high quality patient oxygen assessments. You will need to demonstrate excellent risk assessment communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be adaptable, reliable, resourceful and approachable. Producing succinct patient assessment reports is essential and ensuring a high level of documentation within the specialist and holistic assessment which enables patients to be cared for in their own homes and clinic settings. You will facilitate the prevention of unnecessary hospital admission/re-admission by reducing the effects of ill health and disability and maximising the individual's potential for independence. A robust induction and competency-based development package will be provided.

  • oExperience of working with Respiratory patients eg COPD, ILD and Bronchiectasis
  • oExperience working in the community
  • oExperience working in a specialist Home Oxygen Service

Physical Requirements
  • oAble to deliver the principle accountabilities identified in job description in a variety of settings.

Qualifications
  • o1st Level Registered Nurse
  • oPost-registration and significant further specialist knowledge/post registration experience to diploma level or equivalent underpinned by theory in Respiratory
  • oKnowledge of specialist procedures through training
  • oAble to perform blood gas sampling (CBG)
  • oARTP Spirometry experience/training or working towards
  • oRelevant post registration diploma/degree courses in respiratory management
Training
  • oCPD

Knowledge
  • oUp to date knowledge in developments within respiratory care in respect of oxygen
  • oSelf motivated and able to lead by example

Contractual Requirements

  • oFlexibility to work within the needs of the service which may include 7 day working between 8am - 8pm on a rota basis.
