Overview

We are looking to recruit a full time Band 3 HCA into the Home Haemodialysis Training Team to help with the training of patients wishing to do their own dialysis at home. You will be based primarily in the Renal Unit at the City Campus of NUH although may need to train the satellite units, and will work alongside the Home HD Training nurses supporting patients as they train to do their own dialysis. You may also be asked to visit patients at home to offer guidance and support when patients first transition to the home. Previous haemodialysis experience and car driver with own car essential.

You will work as a member of the Home Haemodialysis Training Team to support the training needs of patients and their carers whilst they learn to do their own dialysis, providing a high standard of care and support, both in the hospital and also in the home setting when needed.

Responsibilities
  • Guide and assist patients and/or their carers in learning to set up and operate their dialysis machine and other equipment
  • Guide and assist the patient/carer in learning to cannulate their fistula
  • Guide and assist the patient/carer in safely using their dialysis access to facilitate dialysis where appropriate
  • Deliver high quality holistic under the indirect supervision of a registered nurse, in the hospital and the home setting
  • Deliver efficient and effective care and communication between the multidisciplinary team, the patient and carers
  • Guide and support patients as they learn to set up and prepare their dialysis machine
  • Support patients as they learn to insert their own needles for dialysis
  • Guide and support patients as they learn how to deal with unexpected alarms and situations whilst having dialysis
Qualifications
  • Haemodialysis experience is essential
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own reliable vehicle is essential
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own reliable vehicle is essential
  • It is required to cannulate fistulas, therefore previous dialysis experience is essential
