Overview

Job Title: Home Claims Recovery Handler
Location(s): Leicester or Bexhill (Hybrid)

Role overview: Due to growth, we’re forming a brand-new team. As a Specialist Recovery Handler within Home Claims, you will use your recovery knowledge to proactively pursue the recovery of Hastings’ outlay against the party(s) responsible for the damage to our customer’s home. You will support our customers, keep them informed throughout the life of the claim, and work with our legal panel when required to achieve the best outcomes. Over time you will move into handling home liability claims alongside recoveries and support coaching and mentoring across the team.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively manage and maintain a portfolio of home recovery claims ranging in complexity and value; instruct panel solicitors to assist with recovery and initiate legal proceedings when appropriate
  • Manage recovery referrals from colleagues and suppliers; thoroughly investigate claims to identify valid recoveries; work with the wider Home Claims team to raise awareness of recoveries
  • Collaborate with our supply chain to build robust processes to maximise recovery opportunities and assist with measuring supplier performance on recoveries
  • Maintain accurate financials on all claims owned within the portfolio; adhere to the recovery reserving philosophy and apply a true reserve based on realistic recovery prospects
  • Keep customers updated on material developments and explain how decisions are reached, by telephone and written correspondence
  • Use recovery knowledge and investigations tools to resolve liability and quantum challenges
Essential skills/experience
  • Previous experience of handling home insurance claim recoveries and general home claims processes
  • Solid knowledge of relevant legal principles and case law
  • Outstanding communication and organisational skills; ensure customers are kept updated
  • Experience handling property liability claims is beneficial
