An established industry player is seeking a Specialist Inspector to join their Major Hazards Risk Assessment Unit. In this pivotal role, you will evaluate technical risks associated with onshore major hazard installations and provide crucial advice to stakeholders. The Major Hazards Risk Assessment Unit (MHRAU) within CEMHD is responsible for contributing to the regulation of onshore major hazard sites, with a focus on assessing major hazard risks from Control of Major Accident Hazards’ (COMAH) establishments. Working with other parts of Government, including Scotland and Wales, we deliver statutory land use planning advice on development around existing major hazard installations and pipelines to local authorities, duty holders, developers, and the public. MHRAU also provides statutory advice on hazardous substances consent applications for proposals involving significant quantities of flammable or toxic substances. Maintaining public safety assurance in land use planning related to major hazards is central to our activities. Our advice helps prevent major accidents and mitigate their consequences.

Training:
As a Specialist Inspector, you will undergo a two-year Specialist Training Programme (STP), including legal training and assessments on occupational health and safety. You must pass the programme to complete your probation. Additional technical training on major hazard regulation and on-the-job training will be provided to establish your expertise.
