Higher Level Teaching Assistant – HLTA - ASD – SEMH – Permanent – Leatherhead
The School:
Secondary/post 16 learning centre for young people with ASD/SEMH, based in Effingham, Surrey. This new school is part of an established group known for outstanding education for SEN students, with strong community links and belonging to a group of specialist schools.
Purpose of the role:
You will support children with their learning and care needs in school and other settings, offering tailored approaches to help each student reach their full potential in a caring, safe environment.
Hours and salary:
* 40 hours/week, term time only, 8.30am-4.30pm, with some flexibility. One day a week till 5pm for staff training and meetings.
* Permanent role. Salary: £26,265.95 - £28,660.26, depending on experience.
* £2000 joining bonus in the first year.
Responsibilities:
* Assist in delivering high-quality, challenging, and differentiated educational activities and sensory experiences for ASD and SEMH students.
* Understand curriculum planning, and plan, prepare, and deliver teaching activities, adapting as necessary.
* Support daily class operations, lead in the absence of a class teacher, and assess, record, and report on student development, progress, and attainment.
Requirements and application process:
* Postgraduate qualification in psychology or criminology is desirable but not essential.
* HLTA status is highly desirable; if not held, prior HLTA experience is required.
* Experience in a special school setting is desirable.
* Team TEACH Training is desirable.
* Positive, proactive attitude and genuine desire to work with students with additional learning and behavioural needs.
