Job summary

Archbishop Runcie Church of England VA First School in Gosforth invites applications for a Support Assistant Higher Level to cover PPA across Nursery to Year 4. The successful candidate will cover lessons, supervise classes when teachers are absent, and work with small groups under staff guidance, implementing programmes and managing behaviour positively.

Qualifications

• Experience of supporting learning in all Key Stages within the first school age range.
• Ability to create a calm, purposeful learning environment.
• Experience delivering group sessions, including phonics.
• Experience supporting teaching and assessing learning.
• Willingness to engage with parents and families and participate in school life.
• Support the vision and Christian ethos of the school.
• Be innovative, creative and imaginative.
• Passion for working with children with additional needs, with good knowledge of best practice.

Responsibilities

• Cover lessons and supervise classes in the absence of the class teacher.
• Work with small groups of children under supervision of teaching staff.
• Implement programmes and manage behaviour positively.
• Assist pupils in relevant activities in line with school policies and procedures.
• Be a team player, flexible and willing to take on additional hours as needed.
