Job summary

Hackness CE Primary School in Scarborough is seeking a combined HLTA, Playworker and Midday Supervisory Assistant to support learning, play and wellbeing during the school day. The role covers three distinct duties with term-time hours and a permanent contract.

Start date January 2027 or earlier if possible, with a friendly, supportive school community and strong safeguarding ethos. The post offers part-time hours across 27.5 hrs + 4.5 hrs + 2.5 hrs per week, with term-time only plus 1 week, and

Qualifications

• Experience of supporting teaching and learning, leading small groups and working with children in a school setting would be an advantage.
• Ability to work across three roles (HLTA, Playworker and MSA) and safeguard confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Higher Level Teaching Assistant – support teaching and learning, plan and deliver engaging activities, lead groups under guidance.
• Playworker – organise and supervise age-appropriate play, promote a safe environment, support children's wellbeing.
• Midday Supervisory Assistant – supervise lunchtimes, encourage safe play and positive behaviour, respond to concerns.

The roles

Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Working closely with teachers and colleagues to support teaching and learning, including:

• Supporting the planning and delivery of engaging learning activities and targeted interventions.
• Leading group activities and supporting classes under the direction of teaching staff.
• Helping pupils develop independence, confidence, positive behaviour and progress in learning.

Playworker – Helping to provide a safe, enjoyable and inclusive play environment, including:

• Organising and supervising stimulating, age-appropriate play and activities.
• Promoting a welcoming and safe environment for children, both indoors and outdoors.
• Encouraging positive relationships and supporting children’s wellbeing.

Midday Supervisory Assistant – Supporting safe and positive lunchtimes, including:

• Supervising pupils in the dining area and playground during the lunch period.
• Encouraging positive behaviour, safe play and respectful interactions.
• Supporting pupils’ wellbeing and responding appropriately to any concerns.
