Job summary

West Exe School in Exeter is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support children with Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA). You will work with students, families and staff to promote engagement and emotional wellbeing, with the goal of reintegration into mainstream education.

You will join a multidisciplinary team within the Horizon Hub, bringing empathy, resilience and strong safeguarding practices to daily learning activities and interventions.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and young people in educational or support settings.
  • Empathy, patience and resilience when supporting vulnerable students.
  • Understanding the impact of anxiety, trauma and emotional wellbeing on attendance and learning.
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confident in leading learning activities and interventions independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Knowledge of Attend Framework.
  • Knowledge or experience in trauma informed practice.
  • Knowledge or experience in ELSA or Emotional Logic-style interventions.
