Job summary

An educational support organization in East London is seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join its Exceptional Support team. The role involves supporting children and young people with Specific Learning Difficulties, coaching staff, and implementing inclusive strategies to promote engagement. Higher Learning Teaching Assistant – Exceptional Support Team

Contract Length: up to 3 months

Location: East London

An East London local authority is looking for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join its Exceptional Support team. The role involves working across schools to support children and young people aged 5-25 with SEND who are:

  • At risk of exclusion
  • Struggling to access learning due to challenging behaviour
  • In settings where recommended strategies from Advisory Teachers are not consistently implemented

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with schools and identified CYP
  • Upskill designated staff or LSAs through:
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Sharing tailored strategies
  • Implement and model inclusive strategies to promote engagement
  • Work closely with SENDATs Advisory Teachers to embed recommended approaches
  • Deliver time-limited interventions (up to six weeks) focused on staff development

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience or qualifications in supporting CYP with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), particularly dyslexia
  • Willingness to contribute to SpLD-focused projects within schools
