About the role/department:

We have a vacancyfor a History teacher and are lookingfor the rightcandidate to join our successful friendly and dedicated Humanities faculty.

The History team at Outwood Academy Normanby consists of three members of staff ranging from ECT to more experienced colleagues. We love working with the students and they love our subject with most students choosing History for GCSE in our school due to our friendly approach our outstanding teaching and the support that we offer our students every single day. We have recently moved rooms so that the History department is together which means our students and members of staff in the department are consistently supported all of the time. All the History classrooms are resourced with interactive whiteboards visualisers and ample storage which will enable you to teach in a variety of ways.

Wellbeing and management of workload is a priority for the department and we work collaboratively across key stages and always share resources and planning. This reduces the workload overall and it means we share expertise and best practices from the different points in our teaching careers. We support each other whenever we can which includes support with planning marking and sometimes even teaching. As a team we share the view that whilst our job is often difficult we do it because we want to educate the future generation and because of the positive impact we have on our amazing students every day.

We are incredibly proud of our History curriculum at Outwood Normanby. KS3 follows a 3year program of study with the aim to develop critical thinking skills an understanding of the world around them skills for employability as well as a genuine love of our subject. At our schoolY7 students have one hour of History Y8 and Y9 have two hours a week. We study topics from the Battle of Hastings to the Battles of WW1 the Tudors to the Vietnam War the Industrial Revolution (where we also study our local area) to dictators. We ensure that our students have a broad knowledge of History across Britain and the world with a mixture of social economic political cultural and environmental history. GCSE students in Y10 and Y11 have three hours of History a week. We follow the Edexcel History course studying Medicine in Britain c1250 present Early Elizabethan England 1558 88 the American West c1835 c1895 and Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918 39.

Applicants must hold UK QTS if trained overseas have the relevant evidence that your qualification equates to UK QTS.
