Job Description:

About the role: History and Sociology Teacher

We’re excited to be expanding our A-Levels and T-Levels in our Surrey campuses, and as part of this we’re looking to recruit a new A Level History and Sociology Teacher to join the team at Guildford College!

Students on our A-Level History and Sociology courses are looking for an inspirational and engaging teacher, with a clear passion for the subject matter, to help to develop their understanding and knowledge.

Additionally, you will contribute to the development of the curriculum and resources for History and Sociology, participate in departmental meetings, parent evenings, and school events, and support extracurricular activities or clubs related to the subject area.

This role would suit either an experienced teacher, or a new graduate with subject knowledge, looking to progress into the teaching profession.

This is a permanent, part-time role working 16 hours per week (0.43 FTE). There may be some flexibility on working days for the right candidate, and we’d welcome applications for multiple part-time teaching roles at Activate.

What do you need to be successful as a History and Sociology Teacher at Activate Learning?

We are looking for people who can act as role models for our students and ensure that they leave us with not just their professional qualifications, but the attributes required to progress in the world of work. A genuine interest in working with and developing young people is a requirement.

Whilst previous teaching experience or qualification would be an advantage, it is not a requirement. As long as you have the qualifications or experience to teach on our A-Level History and Sociology courses and demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational teacher, we can provide you with the necessary training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.

Your communication and interpersonal skills will be outstanding and support your ability to deliver interesting and purposeful lessons to a diverse range of learners. You will also have strong organisation skills coupled with the ability to prioritise workloads and will benefit from being part of a supportive team, working in a varied and interesting role with a variety of opportunities for career development.

What Activate Learning offer to new Teaching staff?

Here at Activate Learning, we recognise the importance of a good induction when joining a new organisation. Whether you are an experienced teacher or new to teaching, we provide all teaching staff with a comprehensive, mandatory, three-day induction programme, with an afternoon focused on sharing our approaches to teaching and assessment. This provides new employees with an understanding of Activate Learning's mission, values and Learning Philosophy led culture, ensuring you feel connected and supported from day one.

Together, we will bring out the best version of yourself.
