Job summary

Pegasus Classic Engineering is seeking a Historic Motorsport Operations Manager to join its leadership team. You will oversee workshop performance, race team activities, customer projects, and team development, merging strategic planning with hands-on delivery in the workshop and at events.

You will work closely with the Director as second-in-command, drive operational improvements, manage schedules and procurement, and ensure safety and quality standards across UK and European race weekends.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing a motorsport workshop and team.
  • Proven leadership in fast-paced racing environments.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to mentor and develop staff.
  • Excellent communication with drivers, engineers, suppliers and customers.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK and Europe for events.
  • Must hold a valid full driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage workshop mechanics and support staff to ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency.
  • Plan, prioritise, and manage restoration, preparation and rebuild projects for customers’ cars.
  • Coordinate workshop scheduling, resource allocation and project timelines for race commitments.
  • Ensure all vehicles are prepared, maintained and presented to the highest standards for testing and events.
  • Act as primary contact between customers, drivers, engineers, suppliers and workshop personnel.
  • Manage parts procurement, inventory control and supplier relationships.

Historic Motorsport Operations Manager

This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished motorsport professional to take a senior leadership position within a respected historic racing operation. Working as the Director's principal operational partner, you will oversee workshop performance, race team activities, customer projects, and team development while helping shape the future growth of the business. We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for historic motorsport, proven leadership experience, and the ability to combine strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery both in the workshop and at the circuit.

Leadership & Strategic Support
  • Act as the principal operational support to the Director, serving as the second-in-command across workshop and racing events.
  • Take responsibility for day-to-day management of workshop and race operations, enabling the Director to focus on technical specifications.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of business processes, operational improvements, and quality standards.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
  • Work closely with the Director to identify opportunities for business growth, customer retention, and enhancement of the company's reputation within the historic motorsport community.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage workshop mechanics and support staff to ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency.
  • Plan, prioritise, and manage the restoration, preparation, and rebuild projects for our customers’ cars.
  • Coordinate workshop scheduling, resource allocation, and project timelines to meet customer and racing commitments.
  • Ensure all vehicles are prepared, maintained, and presented to the highest standards for testing and events.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between customers, drivers, engineers, suppliers, and workshop personnel.
  • Manage parts procurement, inventory control, and supplier relationships.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations within the workshop and at events.
  • Develop team capability through mentoring, training, and performance management.
Race Event Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the team at race meetings, test days, and motorsport events both in the UK and Europe.
  • Coordinate vehicle logistics, equipment transport, and event preparation.
  • Direct trackside operations, ensuring cars are prepared, maintained, and supported throughout race weekends.
  • Manage mechanics and support crew during event setup, practice sessions, qualifying, and races.
  • Make operational decisions under pressure to ensure the safe and successful running of vehicles.
  • Liaise with drivers, race organisers, technical officials, and customers throughout events.
  • Oversee post-event inspections, reporting, debriefing and workshop follow-up activities.
  • Ensure all team members maintain professional standards and represent the company positively at events.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience managing a workshop and motorsport team.
  • Strong understanding of historic race cars, classic vehicle restoration, and motorsport preparation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to motivate and lead teams with varied expertise and backgrounds.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Experience operating in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends, and willingness to travel for race events in the UK and Europe.
  • Full driving licence.
