Job description

Due to internal promotion, we have an exciting new opportunity for a Hire Manager to join our team, supporting our Chandlers Ford Branch.

You will work with the Branch Manager and Assistant Branch Manager to coordinate the branch's hire operations, ensuring the smooth completion of customer hire requests and leading the hire team to achieve profit and team targets.

As Hire Manager, you will:

  • Oversee all aspects of safety and security of branch assets, including people, vehicles, property, pumps, and associated equipment, ensuring compliance with regulations and timely handling of incidents.
  • Ensure pricing parameters are adhered to and policies are followed for the business and our customers.
  • Set up new customer accounts following Credit Control procedures and manage accounts on stop.
  • Manage efficient use of transport, ensuring customer delivery timelines are met with clear communication.
  • Control transport costs, damages, and losses, managing recovery and keeping reports updated.
  • Utilize strong communication skills to work with local and general business matters, including toolbox talks.
  • Manage hours worked, ensuring compliance with drivers’ hours regulations and tachograph requirements.
  • Liaise with the Branch Manager on financial aspects, including month-end routines, debtor queries, and financial reports.
  • Manage customer interfaces, including key accounts, maximizing opportunities for liaising with customers.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a pump rental business or similar environment.
  • Experience managing a busy hire desk in a fast-paced setting.
  • Experience in logistics, construction, or water utilities is beneficial.
  • Experience with software packages and rental systems.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to re-prioritize quickly.
  • Ability to multi-task and respond to multiple stakeholder queries promptly.
  • Professional and positive communication skills, even under pressure.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with confidence in company products to encourage sales.
  • Knowledge of pumps and solutions is advantageous but not essential.
  • A current Full UK driving license with fewer than 6 points is essential.
